An Important Message from Your Credit Union
Many of you have questions on the effects of the recent “Financial meltdown”, and what effect it will have on your Credit Union.
First I would like to address the concerns of the safety of your deposits. All accounts are now insured by the full faith of the U.S. Government for $250,000.00 or greater. See any staff member for additional information.
Second I would like to address the comments that with this crisis, lending will be more difficult, and people will not have funds available to buy homes, cars, and other large ticket items. This has and will not change for us. We have more than adequate funds available to loan to our members and will continue to have funds available to those that qualify. We have never been involved in the high risk, or sub-prime lending that is now causing the downfall of several large financial institutions. Our rate of delinquent accounts has always been well below the national average, our losses from delinquent loans has and continues to be extremely low.
All funds on deposit are backed by the NCUA up to 100,000.00 and by separating accounts we have the ability for coverage on substantially higher amounts. Feel free to contact any of our member service representatives for addition information on coverage over 100,000.00.
To address our financial condition. Our last two years have been record years for both loan and savings growth. The financial condition of Credit Unions is rated in terms of Capital. Our Capital ratio is almost two times the ratio required by the NCUA. Funds not used for lending are invested only in government backed deposits, all of which are insured completely by the United States government.
So, although I can not say that we are going to see some tough times with layoffs, high gas prices, and a higher cost of living, I want to assure you that your deposits are safe with us. We will continue to operate as an independent Credit Union, and continue to offer a full line of products and services to the Niles and Cass County communities.
As always, I am available to further discuss any concerns you have.
Thank you for your trust in the management of your Credit Union.
Sincerely,
Dave VanStrien- CEO
